We have done research to identify aligned grant funders.
We explore our network to identify our warmest prospects for grant funding.
Grants form one part of our fundraising strategy. We already have demonstrated success in other forms of fundraising that we use to demonstrate our credibility and impact.
We analyse past grant successes and failures to inform development of the fundraising strategy, and assign realistic targets for each grant funder based on research and our own experiences.
Our grant strategy includes multi-year approaches so we can demonstrate sustainability through long-term grants, and we leverage this to secure further funding.

We try to contact a grant funder before we submit anything.
We seek introductions to funders before we submit anything. As much as possible we have a mutual contact recommend us to a grant funder before trying a cold email.
We spend time getting to know grant funders before submission and understand that this can take months. We usually submit proposals after they have expressed an interest in receiving a proposal.
We identify opportunities to demonstrate our collective impact to the grant funder. In addition to reporting, we keep up contact throughout the grant period through thank you cards, newsletters, etc, and we know exactly who holds every relationship.
We understand that strong relationships make multi-year, repeat funding more likely. We're guided by a donor development cycle keeping relationships moving from cool to hot and continually seek opportunities to strengthen relationships.
